So you'd like to play the drums, or take your playing to the next level? Rex has been the choice of tutor for many of Auckland's top drummers for the last 38 years. As an accomplished musican, he's highly skilled, experienced, friendly, motivated and is able to tailor your learning to best suit you and your goals.

Rex's students have gone on to play with the likes of: Van Morrison, Lorde, Kids of 88, The Darcey Perry Band,The Nukes, An Emerald City, The Psychs, Labretta Suede and the Motel 6, Strange Brew, Swampland, One or two of these moved onto other instruments ..... the rest are still drummers and I'm sure  their drumming was  part of the musical development of them all.

Rex is now offering lessons on Roland Electronic Drum Kit  ( Many thanks to the Rockshop ) and classic acoustic drumkits.

Meet Rex McLeod,
Musician & Tutor

Drum Connexions CoverRex has been playing drums for 56 years and teaching for 48 of those years. In 1982 establishing the Rex McLeod School of Drumming in Auckland NZ. Rex studied with Jim Blackley in New York NY. 1971 /72, these studies got Rex into wanting to not only play the drums but also teach them.

Rex went on to do further studies in New York, with Mike Clark and Ricky Sebastian at The Drummers Collective and has attended two Modern Drummer Festivals in New Jersey and  PASIC 2003 in Louisville, Kentucky.  Each of these events has workshops/clinics by some of the worlds top drummers. Rex has vast exprience.as a drum tutor and if you really want to play drums and are prepared to work as hard as possible between lessons, he will help you to become a drummer.
As well as teaching from his private studio Rex was the Drum Set Teacher at St Kentergin School, Auckland, NZ. from 2007 until 2015. During the 1980's Rex was an itinerant Drum Teacher around many Auckland Schools.

Where's the Studio?

The Drum School Studio is conveniently situated in suburban Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand. The location is easy to get to from all Central Auckland suburbs, Royal Oak, Hillsborough, Mangere Bridge, Epsom, Mt Eden, CBD, Parnell, Newmarket, Remuera, with a bus stop (295 Bus) right at the top of the road, a major Bus Terminal down in Onehunga along with a Train Station. We are also very close to the main Nth/Sth Motorway and the Sth Western Motoway. Plenty of free road parking. Rex has students from all over Auckland, out of town and from overseas.
